Globally, plastic straws are the sixth most common type of litter in general and among those causing the most marine pollution in particular. Made of mineral metals, plastic straws are almost never recycled, partly because they are too small and partly because of their composition, as they contain different types of plastic. So they simply contribute significantly to the huge problem of plastic pollution, with experts estimating that at least eight million tonnes of plastic end up in the sea every year. Replace plastic straws once and for all by choosing stainless steel, bamboo or wheat straws.
